Getting some good reports from the beach and passes of Red Fish being caught. John Byerly reported that he was fishing with some friends in the Packery channel, bay side of the bridge and landed well over 30 Reds. On the beach plenty of Mullet running south and the Reds are following. Live Mullet are a great bait but sometimes when fishing around large schools of Mullet its best to use a bit of Mullet instead of a live whole one. Also keep your eyes open for large schools of Reds slowly milling along normally in the first or second gut. These will at first look like a dirty bit of water but on closer inspection you realize they are Schooling Reds. They will take anything you sling under them and offer good sport on a light rod with a gold spoon. The forecast for the weekend is looking windy and long-casting rods and up tide fishing will be the way to go. If you’re in the Surfcats event most big Reds come from just over the bar not with the schooling fish but over the next bar. Don’t ask me why, it’s just the way it is.
